2000 AC Cobra MkIV 5.0 litre CRS Lightweight

Chassis Number: X11CRS

The original ‘Carroll Shelby’ conceived AC Cobra was built both in the USA and the UK,  the 4.2-litre prototype appeared in January 1962 and by the time production ended in 1967 1,029 cars had been built.

In the 1980’s Brian Angliss, the head of  Autokraft acquired the rights to the AC name plus a quantity of spares and tooling from the old Thames Ditton factory and started the production of the Cobra Mk IV based on the previous Mk III car but with a 5.0-litre Ford V8. Around 450 were built before the company folded in 1996 due to the financial problems caused by developing its new Ace model.

Alan Lubinsky then purchased the company now renamed the AC Car Group Ltd and  continued production in Weybridge. Both the Cobra Mk IV and the Ace were build during this time including carbon fibre bodied ‘Carbon Road Series’ or CRS version.

Just 37 of these super light-weight cars were produced with a 5.0 litre fuel injected engine a Tremec five speed gearbox and Hydratrak limited-slip differential, thisbrand new condition example is number 17.

This example is absolute perfection having covered a scant 3004 miles from new.  It was purchased by the current owner when his bank wrote to him some years ago & suggested they would no longer pay him more then a token level of interest on his bank account. He thus withdrew the contents of the account & parked his money in exceptional car. This car is unmarked with no patina whatsoever & simply presents as brand new with the carbon weave pattern clearly visible under the superb paint on the wings.

The car is to be sold freshly serviced & with a fresh MOT which is being done this coming last week of July 2024.  It has been started regularly & also serviced in house by the collectors in house mechanic as it resides in a collection of a dozen or so cars.

We rarely sell cars we have not driven but make an exception in this case due to the exceptionally low miles ion the car.  Suffice to say the onwer tells me it goes as well as it looks.    The pristine racing red paint has the white racing stipes along the length of the car & also racing roundels.  The biscuit interior leather is piped in red & presents as being brand new.
