1929 Rolls-Royce 20hp H. J. Mulliner Weymann Saloon
Chassis number: GVO60
Registration Number: GC3593
Delivered to one Miss. M. E. Lamb. Her address in 1929 was that of 55 Melbury Court of Holland Park / Kensington, London
A delightful introduction to vintage Rolls-Royce ownership. The car is currently owned by a retired Judge whom has been its custodian for the last few years. Having recently passed 86 years old he has decided his Rolls-Royce driving days are over (for the time being) & has instead purchased a Derby Bentley from us for which we applaud him. Prior to this the former owner had the car for some 30 or so years taking great care of it & looking after it.
Being of a lightweight ‘Weymann' style construction. the car has a relatively lively performance by 20hp standards. and aside from that is driving very nicely, with a lovely gearbox, light precise steering, good brakes etc making it a pleasure to use. Cosmetically good without being too smart to enjoy in a relaxed fashion, being green to the bonnet, with fabric covered body in a slightly greenish dark hue, with black painted wings all in good order and the interior in tan leather, in very nice condition. The car is correctly fitted with 20" wheels and Dunlop Fort tyres all round.
The light patina of use makes this a charming car. Indeed when first stepping in it to drive it home the experience was akin to pulling on ones best pair of slightly worn but favourite bespoke pair of shoes & I felt instantly at home. It trots along readliy at 50 or so indicated MPH making it a pleasure to use on B type roads.
The car was collected by us from defacto 20hp Expert Carl Ford of C.J. Ford engineering in Long Crendon near Thame. He had just given the car a full service, a tune up & generally pronounced the car as bing fit & well so it is ready for immediate extended use.
A large home built luggage box is fitted to the rear along with leather retaining straps. A single spare wheel is side mounted. The rear is commodious with occasional seats folding out allowing for carriage of up to 7 people. Being an early 1929 model the car still has horizontal rather then vertical radiator shutters. The radiator is freshly painted & clearly has been recently re-cored. As a resuly the car runs cool at around 60 degrees with very healthy oil pressure. The engine, a paragon of smoothness ticking over silently & smoothly.
It is always a pleasur eto get such a car in that has been properly serviced on a regular basis under the current ownership & clearly has not been skimped upon with regards to maintenance.
