1954 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn
Chassis Number: SOG68
Registration Number: FSK963
After WW2, as well as continuing to supply chassis frames to coachbuilders, RR began providing complete cars, starting with the Bentley Mark VI
In 1952 the Mark VI was given a larger engine and a longer tail, and became the R Type. The Silver Dawn is the Rolls version of the R Type.
Originally 'Export Only', but released in the UK in 1953, It has a softer, more stately, performance than the R type, having a single Zenith carburettor rather the Bentley's more sporting twin SU.
Legendary for lack of performance: 'rev up like mad and bang in the clutch, and it leans gently forward' it is actually no slouch.
Colour: Masons Black with Single Ivory Line
Automatic Gearbox X53 131645. Rolls had difficulty manufacturing the General Motors automatic gearbox at first, so imported the first 600 directly from USA. The X53 means this is one of the 300 imported in 1953.
Chassis SOG 68, Engine S34G, Body 6923. Rear Axle 12/41
Delivered to Lillie Hall [London distribution centre] on 5.3.54.
Shipped for Train Ferry, truck no. MM99, Dunkirk - Turin on 25.3.54
Guarantee issued 25.5.1954. Original Registration: 5 TO 131645
Special instructions.
Upholstery: Fawn Cloth, not leather, Blinker Indicators, Export bumpers, High Frequency horns, Speedo in Kilometers, Suitcases.

Sent to Fernando Martorelli, Rome [?RR Agent] for
Signor Luigi Comi of the Societa Immobilari Urbane Milanese, [Estate Agent] Via Guastella 13, Milan. 'For use in Milan'
This dawn comes to us with an eyewatering set of bills where simply eveything has been done to it mechanically. in 2025 a further £7,000 has been spent upon the car to put it in tip top driving order. In addition to this £2760 has been spent this year fitting Electric power steering.
Prior to the current ownership the car belonged to a fastidious Swiss gentleman who spent some £40k on the car at Royce Engineering in Betchworth surrey looking after the car without regard to cost. As a result the car runs simply beautifully. The rebuilt gear box is a paragon of smoothness & the engine silent yet powerful. The car is having a full machine polish as I write to bring the Masons black paintwork up to a proper Rolls Royce Lustre.
To the interior is patinated cream lether in good order throughout. The dash walnut woodwork has been removed & refinished. All the original tools are in place in their appointed places on the floor of the boot. The car is running steel belted radial tyres that makes for a lovely ride. A large sunroof was fitted at the factory as when new the car was supplied to the dry climes of Italy. The car also has fold out walnut picnic tables for the use of the rear passengers.
The car is in super running order & ready for extended continetal road trips as its make intended. Indicated miles on the odometer are 64,000.
