1928 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Barker Disappearing roof tourer
Chassis Number: 81CL
Registration Number: UV639
An interesting car that started life as a Hooper Sedanca. In the 1950's the current body was moved most likley from a Ghost to chassis 81Cl which is as we find it today. The body is a quality affair thought to be by barker & incorporates a disappearing roof that cunningly & easily folds below the rear flip up deck. The car has been under the current ownership for three decades & comes with a simply massive history file.
Finished in Dark Blue over black the paint presents very well with just a little light patina. To the interior is very old pale Blue leather which is serviceable but has a few cracks & tears. The body style is pleasing in appearance & makes a welcome change to the more standard barrel sided tourers we so often handle.
The hood is a mohair affair in excellent order having only been put up twice in the last 30 years or so. If folds out from under the rear deck once a coach key has been used to undo the twin latches. An auster style rear Vee screen protects the rear occupants & gives the car a rakish look. The rear passengers are further proteced by a folding cowl that hinges up to allow ingress & egress form the rear seats.
The car sits on four good tyres fitted to powder coated wire wheels in black. The car comes with the wheel spanner etc stowed in the folding hood area.
The car runs well with a strong quiet engine. It is booked in to Marque specialist C.J. Ford Engineering for a full service & tune up/set up prior to sale. A massive history comes with the car with copious photographs detailing its assorted exploits including parading before her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It has also done duty for family weddings & is no stranger to longer trips when required.
