1925 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost London To Edinburgh style tourer.

Chassis number: 48EU

Registration Umber: TBA

The Ghost  48EU  started life as a large saloon/limousine as so many did, but by the end of WW2 it was in a breakers yard.  Wing Commander Ken Wallis who flew many missions in the war liked old ghosts and rescued 2 from the breakers yard.  One he restored and designed his own body using old airplane sheet metal which by 1950 standards was quite Avant guard and won many awards etc. (looked like a Clennae) the other Ghost 48EU he had Wilkinsons of Derby make the LE body that it has had for over 70 years.

He was still very much into aviation and got into one man helicopters  -  gyrocopter actually.  And set many world records.   He moved with his 2 ghosts to America.  The film industry heard of him so wrote into the script of the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice a helicopter air battle scene with Wing Commander Ken Wallis being the stunt man for 007 fighting two helicopters, and of course winning and apparently the helicopter pilots asked Ken to slow down as they couldn’t keep up to him.

So there’s a film industry connection, and to none other than the original 007

The current 70 year old London to Edinburgh body is rakish in the extreme.  The style & instrumentation are reminiscent of a pre first world war car with Elliott Brothers speedometer, Narrow body & colonial bonnet but benefits from the later Ghost features such as 4 wheel brakes making it very well suited to rallies & continental touring events.

We will be photographing the car in Vancouver British Columbia mid August so stand by for further pictures & details.  It currently resides in a small collection of impeccable motor cars.
