1963 bentley S3 Standard Steel Saloon
Chassis number: B164LCN
Registration Number: AH23693 Danish
Ordered to USA specifications through J.S. Inskip, a New York dealer, this S3 saloon was delivered on 18 February 1963 to Sarah Mellon, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an heiress to her family’s banking and oil fortunes. Special equipment includes a heater. The car was purchased some years ago from the RM Aalholm Auction sale as a low mileage example that had been in the museum for many years.
Restored without regard to cost; This Left Hand drive Bentley S3 comes to us with an incredible & eye watering set of Bills from Rolls Royce & Bentley appointed service agents Bernt Hansens of Copenhagen totalling over 1.268,554 Danish crowns, or £144,000 sterling in todays money in addition to the £30,000 cost of the car from the auction. Needless to say the previous owner went bankrupt as a result & the car is now being sold to recoup some of the restoration costs. The bills are well worth reading though as they are so detailed & exhaustive.
The car is finished in flawless embassy Black paintwork. All chrome has of course been redone so the car presents as new from the outside. To the interior is brand new cream hide throughout along with refinished interior wood work including rear fold out picnic tables. The car is similar underneath having been restored to perfection. The odometer shows 45,010 miles. The car is used as personal transport for one of the principals of Bernt Hansens which in itself is testimony to the quality of the work performed where it shares garage space with an S1 Cabriolet refinished to the same standards.
Everything possible has ben done to the car mechanically so that it drives like new. The engine & gear box are fully rebuilt as are all other mechanical components. The brakes are pin sharp & effortless to use; the steering direct & play free. Indeed to drive this car is to imagine one is leaving the gates at Crewe for its' first journey.
Viewings are in Copenhagen by prior appointment. The car is of course European taxes paid.
