1934 Derby Bentley 3.5 Litre H.J. Mulliner Sports Saloon.

Chassis number: B-184-AH

Registration Number: HS7382

A very early derby with particularly pretty & well proportioned aluminium coachwork by H.J. Mulliner of Chiswick.  I find the body to be better proportioned & far rarer then the more common Park Ward bodied cars; having lovely creases to the tops of the wings.

First supplied via the Clyde Motor Co of Glasgow to one T.H. Coates Esq, it then passed in 1936 to another Scottish gentleman: Alex Cormack Esq.  Early on in its life B184AH made its way to the sunny climes of California where it resided for many many  years owned at one stage by the Musician Neil Young of Crosby Stills Nash & young fame.  It was repatirated to the UK some 15 years ago & has seen very little use indeed during that time whilst sharing garage space with a Mulliner bodied Rolls Royce 20/25.

This is clearly a very low mile chassis with little wear to the pedals & controls & the chassis still displaying its original brown factory Paint.  Indeed the car is absolutely like new underneth & in superb corrosion free order.  The steering is taut & play free.

The current owner aquired the car some 15 or so years ago partially disassmbled as a restoration project.  He has done a commendable job of putting it back together whilst preserving as much of its originailty as possible.  The engine was taken apart, inspected & assorted parts renewed as required.  The engine was in such a good state that it was deemed not necessry to do a full rebuild.  The engine bay is detailed to show standards & is close to immaculate.  The car has been rewired in correct braided colour coded electical cable.  The followng list was snet by the current owner of the work he had done on the car:

HEAD  --- skimmed ,  pressure tested , serviced and refitted .
CARBURETTORS --- re built with parts from SU .
One shot system checked and repaired as required .
Brakes checked . OK
Road wheels powder coated .
New Dunlop tyres and inner tubes all-round . Balance weights removed stripped and re seated . Wheels  re  balanced .
Leather gaiter's replaced on road springs where necessary .
Complete rewire using correct wire and terminals .
Has been re trimmed .
Refinished wood work .
Ace wheel covers x 6 included with all fittings and center's re chromed . (not fitted) .
Lucas spotlight in very good order . (not fitted) .
Running board substructure re made
New battery ..Luggage straps, cases , tool kit etc .

P100 Lucas lisghts are fitted up front & a separate spot lamp also comes with the car although not installed.  The boot has a fold out tool tray & there is a roll containing a variety of original small tools.  The boot is of large proportions & has a division & tie downs allowing for a lot of luggage to be carried.  Twin side mount spares are recessed into the front wings.

Exterior paint is black over pewter grey & is in very good order indeed.  To the interior is lightly patinated brwon leather in really fine condition.  A set of Lamarr wheel discs come with the car for those who prefer them over the more sporty wire wheel look.

Overall this is a really lovely derby at a competititve price.  It is having a quick service & set up by a marque specialist prior to delivery to the next lucky new owner.  The mechanics of the car have been thoroughly gone though & is a credit to the current engineer/owner who now needs the space for another project.
