A desirable Speed model with its factory supplied  engine in situ as when new.

 According to  Vanden Plas Coachbuilder records, this car was originally fitted with Body No. 1048 with a short chassis standard Sports 4-seater; grey and light blue; 6/1924.  After being discovered in dilapidated conditon by well known Bentley restorer Donald Day, the car was rebuilt over a period of some years with completion being achieved in 2001.  Since then the car has toured Both New Zealand & South Africa  & proved to be utterly reliable.

The body fitted today is a beautifully executed replica Vanden Plas style tourer with skinny blade style wings & is a close facsimile of the 1924 Le Mans winning team car.  The body is of traditional ash construction with a blue rexine syle covering.  To the interior is black leather along with Blue carpets.

Important features include a new crankshaft, modern cartridge oil filtration, petrol delivered by Autovac or SU pump, 16-gallon petrol tank, vacuum brake servo, matching Lucas ‘Bell’ head and side lamps, CAV ‘Divers Helmet’ rear lamps and lockable under wing tool boxes.

Dual purpose aero screens normally positioned as wind deflectors.

Twin Scintilla magnetos (regarded by many as the best).

Twin lightweight electric fans for hot climate touring.

Finned cast brake drums rather than plain pressed steel.

New hood frame with hood, bag and tonneau cover.

Flashers with “buzzer” (front incorporated into side lamps).

Heavy duty folding luggage rack. 

Useful under-bonnet 12volt socket for computer charging, tyre inflation and voltmeter reading.

Map and document storage under front seats.

Additional storage under rear nearside footwell.

The present owner has made further improvements by fitting a new ‘A’-type gearbox, the stronger ‘4-star’ differential and a new cone clutch ring. A sound and well sorted car which is reminiscent of Bentley’s first win at Le Mans in 1924.  Starts ‘on the button’ and is being sold for family health reasons. 

This is a car built up & set up for serious long distance rallies & is also eligible to run in the Mille Miglia event.  Tried & tested the car has done several long distance  international rallies which is has completed with aplomb.

Little but regularly used in recent years due to the advanced age of the owner & the inability of his wife to exit & egress the car without assistance.  The car is used regularly for a short run every month to keep the machine in good fettle.

This is a car with a lot going for it. The body is sporty & very pretty.  It was a desirable speed model from new.  Everything needing doing has been done without regard to cost.  It is fitted with a larger fuel tank well suited to long distance drives & wants for nothing.
