1938 Mercedes 230 Cabriolet B RHD UK Supplied.

Chassis number: 407325

Registration number: EYT9

Supplied New to the UK in 1938; It is supposed that this may have been one of the 16 or so German Embassy cars as they had similar 4 digit registration numbers.

A comparatively rare car, let alone in Right hand drive, I have not seen another before.  The quality of the car is superb in keeping with its larger engined contemperaneous siblings.  Indeed a period test by "The Motor" gives the car high praise indeed for both round town refinement & open road performance, commenting in particular upon the quality of construction of the ensemble as a whole.

The car comes with its original sales brochure & also a very teutonic manual in English; "A solex Down Draught carburettor serves to produce the explosive mixture" etc.  The 6 cylinder engine has been thoroughly rebuilt in 2007 with new liners, regorund crank etc  & not too many miles put on it since, so it is in fine fettle starting readily & pulling strongly though the 4 speed 'box.

A new Mohair hood has been installed with west of England cloth as a liner by noted trimmer Mike Thomas.  Interior leather has been sympatheticaly conserved & re-dyed.  The car as a whole has a very original feel to it having escaped the attentions of those who over restore such things to better then brand new.  The black paint is older but presentable with a few minor blemishes which do not detract from the appearance as a whole

On the road this Mercedes compares very favorably with a Derby Bentley of the same period.  It comfortably seats four people.  The suspension is soft & undulating.  The engine allows for all day 60MPH crusing with the engine being relaxed due to the fitting of a Tim Payne Overdrive.  An original set of Sindelfingen supplied luggage is found in the boot.

This is an oppprotunity to acquire a very rare pre war germanic offering which was supplied new Via Mercedes Benz UK on Park lane just prior to the onset of hostilities.  Under the current ovnership for decades, the car is in very fine mechanical order with use reserved for high days & holidays plus family weddings & proms etc.

The motor in 1938 summed the car with the following epithet:  "What is even more important then statistical information regarding maximum or average speeds is the ease with which these figures are obtained.  We are not exagerating when we say that the general comfort of this car is superior to practically any other vehicle in which we have had the pleasure of riding."
