1902 Rochet 4 1/2hp Vis-à-Vis
Chassis number: 1369
Registration number: BS8229
Engine Number: 2627

Vintage and Prestige Fine Motor Cars are proud to be offering this 1902 Rochet 4 1/2hp Vis-à-vis for sale. Particularly pretty and attractive early Paris built vis-à-vis  style car. Being of 1902 origin it will be a reasonably early starter at about number 100 on the London to Brighton run which it has completed on a number of occasions.

Smartly presented in red livery with black body mouldings and fine red coach lining and furnished with buttoned red upholstery and equipped with nickel fittings. The vis-à-vis coachwork bears the plate of Bergeon & Cie, Carrossiers of Bordeaux. The 1902 Rochet 4 1/2hp Vis-à-Vis is equipped with a practical hood useful on those occasional wet drives down the A23 and this has recently been re-covered.

Driving equipment includes also a double-twist bulb horn and oil side lamps. BS 8229 has been VCC dated and carries a dating plate for certificate no.2240, issued in November 1998. Driving is simplicity itself with the 80 x 90mm, 452cc Aster engine, driving through the two-speed Bozier gearbox. Originality has been carefully maintained in all major respects although a discreet electric water pump has been fitted for convenience.

The 1902 Rochet 4 1/2hp Vis-à-Vis has previously been owned by the present Chairman of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain in whose hands it completed the London to Brighton veteran car run in 2003 and 2004.

The 1902 Rochet 4 1/2hp Vis-à-Vis comes with a large collection of recent invoices from the ‘Pantheon Classic Garage’ in Basle, Switzerland  totalling some £30,000. A fluent German speaker will no doubt be able to ascertain exactly what has been done. Most certainly the 1902 Rochet 4 1/2hp Vis-à-Vis has been maintained without regard to expense. We are in the process of re-registering the car to a UK plate.
