A beautifully proportioned & very versatile three position drophead by Wylder of Kew.  This car started life as a Mulliner saloon & was rebodied to the format we see today in the 1930's.  Wylder ceased trading in 1937 when they were purchased by Alpe & Saunders.

This little 20hp has had vast amounts of money spent upon it 10 or so years ago by Tim Walker Restorations & also by Marque Specialists  Ristes of Nottingham.  These works included both a long rear axle & an overdrive unit making this the fastest & longest legged 20hp we have ever had pass through our hands.  It cruises all day at a genuine 50MPH & when driving it back across the low countries via the Hook of holland we saw a Genuine GPS recorded 62MPH on a flat section of dutch dyke.  The overdive is configured to work both in 3rd & 4th gears making the car very flexible & a pleasure to drive.

At the same time a full engine rebuild was undertaken including boring the engine out & fitting new pistons etc.  As a result the engine starts instantly & runs in complete silence.  Both axles have been removed & the suspension fully rebuilt.

The paintwork is a fetching maroon over black with a new beige double duck conertible roof having been recently fitted.  Versatile in the extreme it can be used fully closed, half open or as a full convertible when folded down.  The coachwork has particularly pleasing lines with tall side windows & a graceful curve to the door tops.  A large & commodious boot is found at the rear of the car.

The interior is lightly patinated brown leather throughout with thick wool carpets in a lighter brown edge bound in the seat leather.  The dash is a highly figured burr walnut affair with a full set of peiod original instrumentation.  Inside the glove box is a hidden but useful modern fuel gauge.  A 12V USB charging port is also fitted under the dash to power new fangled modern conveniences.

Having handled so many 20hp cars I have to emphasize just how well this one goes.  Far faster indeed then many equivalent 20/25's.  The light yet elegant coachwork cetainly helps the performance.  This is one of the first 20hp cars to be fitted with the now familiar vertical radiator shutters.  The king pins have been redone so the steering is light taut & direct as a 20hp ought to be.

We collected the car in Belgium & drove it back to Grays via its own power via the Hook of Holland & Harwich; a trip which it completed with aplomb.
